Dr. Itzhak Brook, MD, MSc
Coming to Shomrei on February 28 at 7 PM, Men's Club is hosting Dr. Itzhak Brook, MD, MSc, is a Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington DC. He was born and raised in Haifa, Israel and graduated from the Hareali Haivri High School, earning his medical degree from Hebrew University, Hadassah School of Medicine in Jerusalem. Dr Brook completed a residency in pediatrics at Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot, Israel. He served in the Israeli army as a battalion physician during the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in adult and pediatric infectious diseases at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Brook has authored several hundred publications in scientific journals and ten textbooks. He authored a book: "My Voice - a physician's personal experience with throat cancer."
At this 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem, Dr. Brook will be talking about the historical perspectives on the Yom Kippur War, its effects on Israeli society and the peace process as well as his fascinating personal experiences as a battalion physician during this highly fraught conflict. He has been a personal witness to some of the momentous events in the history of the Middle East. A reception at the synagogue will follow his presentation.
