Congregation Shomrei Torah, the Conservative Jewish (USCJ) synagogue in Tallahassee, is seeking teachers for its Religion School classes, which meet on Sunday mornings from 9:45 am to 12:45 pm during the school year, except on Jewish holidays and holidays observed by Leon County Schools. Class sizes are small (typically four to eight students) and are generally divided into the following sessions: Music, Religion Classwork, Snack/Playground Time, and Hebrew/Prayers.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:


• Knowledge of Jewish history, literature, and biblical text
• Proficiency in Hebrew and Conservative Judaism’s Shabbat prayers
• Passionate about Jewish education and programming
• Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and the Religion School Director
• Affection and patience for young children.

The pay is $20/hour and includes limited planning time over the summer and attendance at
CST’s Membership Brunch and Religion School Registration in August. Interested candidates

Now hiring*: Religion School director

​

Congregation Shomrei Torah (CST), the conservative synagogue in Tallahassee, seeks a
highly motivated Religion School Director to oversee and lead our religion and Hebrew school
programs. The Religion School Director will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive
curriculum, managing a team of educators, and fostering a vibrant and engaging learning
environment for students of all ages. The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership and
organizational skills, have a deep understanding of conservative Jewish education and culture,
and be committed to promoting Hebrew language proficiency and Jewish values.


Religion School classes meet on Sunday mornings from 9:45 am to 12:45 pm during the school
year, except on Jewish holidays and holidays observed by Leon County Schools. Our
Religion School is comprised of five classes, approximately 26 students in total, and each day is
generally divided into the following sessions: Shacharit/Music, Religion Classwork, Snack/
Playground Time, and Hebrew/Prayers.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


• Setting the annual school calendar, organizing classes, and leading school events with
support from CST’s Education Vice-President
• Attending CST’s Membership Brunch and Religion School Registration in August
• Managing the enrollment of students
• Managing the teaching staff and supporting CST’s Education Vice-President’s
recruitment efforts
• Managing and organizing the Religion School’s Google Drive
• Providing timely, regular, and clear communication with parents.
• Supporting CST’s Education Vice President to select, develop, assess, and modify the
school curriculum to reflect the needs of students and the values of Conservative
Judaism.
• Conduct two to three Religion School-led Shabbat services.


The pay is $32/hour during the school year and includes a limited amount of planning time over
